Abstract

As discussed in the chapter 1, one of the motivations of the project is to provide enough number of calibrator sources for the users of GMRT at low radio frequencies. Many of the GMRT observers use the VLA calibrator list to find calibrators for GMRT but this is often uncertain since the properties of the VLA calibrator at the GMRT frequency are not known. As discussed earlier, the frequencies 610 MHz and 235 MHz are special, since the GMRT has the advantage of simultaneous observation at these frequencies.

In this chapter firstly we will describe about the VLA telescope, it's array configuration, frequency bands and VLA calibrator manual. Then we will discuss about the criteria for sample selection for the observations, and the methodology used for observation. In the last section we will discuss about the strategies used for data reduction, imaging concepts and actual imaging of the sources using AIPS at both 610 MHz and 235 MHz.
